Smoke & Mirrors or Reality?

August 5, 2020 by Barry J. Klazura No Comments

Thomas Paine said, “Government, even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one”. When it is in its worst state, it can create injustice and suffering. In a capitalistic economy, it can create the potential for massive disruption and financial loss for millions. The following article shows a potential disaster for millions of investors as a government ponzi scheme in the name of “going Green”. For how long will others have to transfer some of their wealth to a corporation which may not be able to stand on its own in the market? Is it fair for those companies and their share holders to accept mandated lower returns on their monies and efforts? It is for you to decide. https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-tesla-secret-11596582407?mod=opinion_featst_pos1

On the Eve, the Jews of Europe before the Second World War by Bernard Wasserstein

July 31, 2020 by Barry J. Klazura No Comments

There was a time when the question of the future of Jews in Europe did not depend on government sanctions, actions or anti-Semitism.  The real question was if within a few generations the Hebrew race and religion would simply die out through a low birth rate and assimilation.  As terrible as it is to believe, the Final Solution of Hitler and the Third Reich led to a rebirth of the Jews as they were able for the first time in 2,000 years to have and create, after WWII, a state of their own.

Is the “Woke” Kultur Guilty of Systematic Racism?

July 31, 2020 by Barry J. Klazura 7 Comments

If there is systematic racism you could identify it by denying people the opportunity for a better education, better jobs, the opportunity to own their own home, etc. Where do we find policies that do just that? In the “progressive” state of California. Are the politicians, unions, special interest groups who back these types of policies racist? Or, do they simply not really care about people in general who can be sacrificed on the alter of their sacred beliefs? https://www.city-journal.org/california-woke-hypocrisy

Words from an Emperor

July 27, 2020 by Barry J. Klazura No Comments

When asked about his life, the Roman Emperor Semtimius Severus (ruled 103-211 AD), considered the last of the “good Emperors”, is reported to have said: “I have been everywhere and seen everything and it is really not all that much.” I guess even Emperors could get bored.

A New Model for Colleges

July 27, 2020 by Barry J. Klazura No Comments

In every cloud there is a silver lining and I believe that this will be one positive which will come out of the current world wide virus. Colleges have been subsidized by government backed loans (meaning taxpayers) and easy money without any degree of accountability. This has forced students and parents to incur major debt that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. Will they still pay outrageous tuition for on line courses? Taking on line courses may actually help students achieve a degree in less than four years as they concentrate on classes instead of rock climbing walls. College will be able to cut costs on diversity deans, high priced sport coaches, administration, buildings, etc. Another positive is that with reduced costs, parents will be able to save for their retirement which will be a boost to the overall economy. This could very well be an example of turning a negative into a positive. https://www.forbes.com/sites/stephenmcbride1/2020/07/21/why-college-is-never-coming-back/?fbclid=IwAR11gtsVX1cnLYujijvPAp_L7NW2qoq4EEhrK3THoi8S0SMzW-py-iMvYtM#15d7865024b7

The Forgotten Man, A New History of the Great Depression by Anity Shlaes

July 26, 2020 by Barry J. Klazura No Comments

“As soon as A observes something which seems to him to be wrong, from which X is suffering, A talks it over with B, and A and B then propose to get a law passed to remedy the evil and help X.  Their law always proposes to determine what C shall do for X, or in the better case, what A, B and C shall do for X…What I want to do is to look up C.  I want to show you what manner of man he is.  I call him the Forgotten Man.  Perhaps the appellation is not strictly correct.  The is the man who never is thought of… He works, he votes, generally he pays-but he always pays…  William Graham Sumner, Yale University, 1883

Two Views on Taxes

July 23, 2020 by Barry J. Klazura No Comments

“nothing sinister in so arranging one’s affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everybody does so, rich or poor; and all do right for nobody owes any public duty to pay more than the law demands…to demand more in the name of morals is mere cant.” Senior Judge of the U.S Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Learned Hand, the most quoted lower Court Judge by the Supreme Court in History (The Forgotten Man, pp 206)

“I like taxes. They are the price I pay for civilization” Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., Associate Justice of the Supreme Court (Ibid, pp 313)

Follow the Money

July 20, 2020 by Barry J. Klazura No Comments

It is often said that it is important to follow the money. This excellent article shows how a simple home based industry can be developed thanks, in large part, to the immense size of the Federal government. Could someone life Howard Ross, a private “diversity consultant” survive in any milieu except that of government bureaucracy? This article in City Journal will help you to understand why movements such “White Fragility” have a life of their own and can survive. https://www.city-journal.org/white-fragility-comes-to-washington

Bust Hell Wide Open: the Life of Nathan Bedford Forrest

July 20, 2020 by Barry J. Klazura No Comments

Perhaps no Civil War General is surrounded by more controversy than Nathan Bedford Forrest and yet his life and campaigns are to a large extent ignored or lightly skipped over as they are lost in the large battles of that conflict. This book, written by a man of the South, is pro-Forrest and yet, it is difficult to refute most of the history as told when reviewed against other contemporary and non-contemporary accounts.
