After decades of huge spending on education and the installation of a “progressive” educational agenda, we continue to hear cries of “systemic racism” as the cause of failure within our public-school systems. To cover the failure of the “progressives” (I am never quite sure what they which to progress too) regarding the disastrous reading and math scores among some minorities, they now wish to eliminate correct and incorrect answers in math and science (as that is racist) along with any notice of hard work and merit.
“Why should those who work hard be honored?” they ask as, any mention of success by some only highlights the failures of others. There are many reasons for failure in our public schools; absent fathers, poorly educated girls having children, poor diet, lack of parental control, etc., and these problems should be addressed. These are (do I dare say?) moral failures. The problem is certainly not funding, and the teachers cannot be held 100% accountable for the failures in the classroom. Yet, one cannot help but believe that given the stance taken during the past several months by the teacher’s unions, it appears students are far down the list of concerns of the teachers’. Literally billions of extra dollars were thrown at the teachers who seem to be immune to any form of accountability. In the meanwhile, literally millions of young lives are being wasted by a system that is clearly dysfunctional, that cannot teach the basic skills such as reading, writing and basic math while preaching fashionable (to the Left) ideals that create not optimism, but rather a sense of inferiority and resentment. The link will take you to an honest look at our current school system and should help us understand why home schooling and alternatives to the public school system are gaining traction.
