A recent study by the California State University system of 50,000 Freshmen, found that sixty-eight percent needed remedial help. This is the future of our country? What parent would knowingly send their child to a university and pay the enormous fees so their child can receive a remedial education? Are the parents really that dumb themselves? Or is the university not advising the parents that their child should not be at the university? Are the universities so hard up for money to pay their tenured staffs and bloated diversity/equity bureaucracies that they will lower their standards and ruin their reputations by eventually graduating sub-par students?

As citizens, we have the right to expect certain things when we pay taxes; taxes are a deal we make with the government. We pay them, they provide certain services at a certain minimal level of efficiency. We may disagree with or be unhappy with the level of service we receive on any given day, but when the return on our dollar is blatantly abused, then we have a right to speak out. Given that at the local level, the largest amount of our tax dollars goes for education, the points in the article (link below) should make all of us demand an accounting.

There is a problem with our ability to protest however, for the teachers’ unions are normally the largest single contributor to many local elections. The failing educational system consists of individuals who pour massive amounts of money into the pockets of politicians who obviously do not care one wit about the future of their citizens. How else can one explain that the politicians who receive those huge donations continue to support a failing system.

There are school districts which have done away with grades, which have eliminated any objective standard for graduation, which demand that the poorest students receive the most amount of attention and help at the expense of other students, which have declared objective answers (as in math and science), racist. One must simply ask, “Who hired these clowns?”  Don’t those who advocate such actions realize that they are playing with people’s lives? That they are denying those students any chance to succeed in life?

The recent pandemic has seen a major drop-in public-school enrollment while the politicians bought and paid for by teachers’ unions fight to maintain the failing status quo. The next time you run into an individual who cannot give you the correct change, or who cannot spell the street you live on, think of those who are responsible for that person’s ignorance. Don’t yell at the clerk, yell at the politician.
